Why You Mustn't Miss The Storytellers by Luxmuralis at Durham Cathedral

Luxmuralis is returning to Durham Cathedral for a fourth year with The Storytellers
Since 2022 Durham Cathedral has hosted the annual light show by Luxmuralis, welcoming thousands of visitors each year in the five night run. Luxmuralis now returns to Durham for the fourth year – showcasing another spectacular light installation, The Storytellers, that brings stories out of the pages of their books and into reality.
‘We're delighted that Luxmuralis is returning once again to Durham Cathedral as it’s very popular with our visitors,’ says Andrew Usher, Chief Officer: Visitor Experience and Enterprise at Durham Cathedral. ‘The Storytellers is a wonderful theme for visitors to explore powerful words from history as well as see elements from children’s literature and classic novels illuminating the cathedral walls.’

By day the cathedral will appear as normal, then each evening, visitors will be dazzled by ancient texts and classic stories as they are projected across all areas inside the cathedral and cloisters. The artwork will illuminate the centuries old architecture, inviting visitors to pause and soak in some of the worlds best stories and much-loved literature – from children’s favourites to fantasy, romance and poetry.
The cathedral will also be filled with a captivating soundscape, celebrating the timeless tradition of sharing stories. There will also be the opportunity to reflect on the experience and light a candle in the Galilee Chapel.
This awe-inspiring sound and light projection was created by the artistic collaboration Luxmuralis. Their works have been touring cathedrals in England for several years.

The Storytellers by Luxmuralis is suitable for all ages and visitors will be able to experience the event from 6.30pm–9.15pm between 8th and 12th October.
Entry to the cathedral is by a timed ticket only – Adults £11, Children (under 18) £4.50, Infants (under three) free.
Special offer tickets for early show runs and joint Museum tickets are also available from the Durham Cathedral website.
