A season of colour, a garden of wonder

Autumn is one of the most beautiful times of year to visit The Alnwick Garden. As the landscape transforms into a tapestry of gold, amber and deep crimson, the Garden offers the perfect setting to slow down, embrace the changing season and enjoy some of Northumberland's most spectacular outdoor scenery.

Throughout September and October, The Alnwick Garden is at its most atmospheric. Take a peaceful stroll through the elegant Ornamental Garden, watch seasonal colour emerge across the grounds and lose yourself in the twists and turns of the Bamboo Labyrinth. The Serpent Garden’s shimmering water features and contemporary sculptures take on a new character beneath autumn skies, creating countless opportunities for photographers, garden enthusiasts and those simply looking to enjoy a relaxing and memorable day out.

This year marks a particularly significant moment in The Alnwick Garden's history as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Taking place from Friday 1st–Sunday 3rd October, the celebrations will give the whole family the chance to reflect on the remarkable transformation of the Garden over the past quarter of a century. Archive footage and displays, entertainment and live performances throughout the day will bring the story of the Garden to life, culminating in a spectacular showcase of light, fire, lasers and fireworks as the fun extends into the evening.

Alongside the natural beauty of the Garden, autumn brings a vibrant programme of events and experiences for younger visitors. September sees the return of Spritember at Lilidorei, where the village's mischievous Sprites bring an extra touch of fun and imagination to the magical playground. With super-twisty slides, and a village packed with stories, secrets and adventure, Lilidorei promises a day filled with laughter and excitement.

The seasonal celebrations continue throughout October with Spookidorei and the return of The Pumpkin Garden. Brimming with autumn colour and harvest-inspired displays, these experiences provide yet another reason to return and enjoy the Garden as the season reaches its peak.

For those already looking ahead to the festive season, autumn also marks the launch of Christmas at The Alnwick Garden. This year's programme sees the return of the North East's much-loved Winter Lights experience from 20th November 2026 to 3rd January 2027, transforming both The Alnwick Garden and Lilidorei into a magical world of illuminations, sound and festive wonder. Visitors can also look forward to the return of Father Christmas at Lilidorei, alongside a range of seasonal experiences including festive dining, afternoon teas and Christmas wreath making.

Whether you're seeking a peaceful autumn stroll, a memorable day out with friends and family, inspiration for seasonal photography or an opportunity to plan the perfect festive visit, The Alnwick Garden offers countless reasons to visit this autumn.
