One of Britain’s oldest farm shops, Hinchliffe’s has been run by the same family for nearly a century, with a strong commitment to sustainability and field-to-fork produce. In the farm shop you’ll find the butchery where the expert team prepare and cure their beef, as well as making their own pies and award-winning sausages. Expect freshly-baked breads and cakes at the in-house bakery, an extensive range of fish and seafood, plenty of fruit and vegetables, and a deli counter packed with British and continental cheese and charcuterie.

Open seven days a week, Fodder is the ideal place to stock up on delicious local food and drink. Supporting more than 430 local farmers and producers from across Yorkshire, you’ll find delicious cakes and bakes, fresh fruit and vegetables, and plenty of cupboard essentials and preserves. Visit the award-winning butchery, or ask for advice on the huge range of Yorkshire cheeses stocked at the deli counter. You’ll also be able to pick up a range of fresh pies, homemade pastries and fresh salads and soups.

Mainsgill Farmshop

At Mainsgill, the mantra is ‘if we can’t make it ourselves, we’ll source it from the best local and regional suppliers’. Cannon Hall Farm

Cannon Hall Farm produce their own beef, pork and lamb, make their own sausages, bacon and award-winning pies, and source their seasonal fruit and veg from the local area. While it’s important to get the staples right, it’s the added pizazz of their less traditional farm shop fare that will keep you going back again and again. Think handmade chocolates, an entire wall of craft gins to choose from, and delicious sourdough bread from their onsite bakery.

Beadlam Grange

Beadlam Grange don’t just sell local produce, they also breed the award-winning Limousin beef that is stocked in their butchery. You’ll also find locally-sourced bread, cakes, seasonal produce, ready meals and frozen food in their farm shop and deli. Take time to visit their onsite Bistro for traditional farmhouse breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas, but be sure to book in advance if you’re after one of their popular Sunday roasts.

The Farm Shop at Cranswick

If you are shopping in-store at this superb farm shop, the majority of their fruit and veg is sold loose, so come prepared with a few bags to keep things organised. The shop also showcases the work of local artists, ceramicists and authors, so it’s worth scheduling in time for a proper mooch and always stop by their brand new ice cream freezer, stocked full of Mr Moo’s Yorkshire Dairy Ice Cream.
