For food that’s just what the doctor ordered, La Pharmacie’s bistro menu is ideal, with 12 inch pizzas crammed with toppings. Bahia Capuccinio Bar and Bistro is great for Mediterranean food, including breakfast with a continental twist. The suburb of Norton, a short drive away, is home to 12 Harland Place, a great place to eat with well-stocked deli bursting with beautiful cakes and store cupboard essentials.

Sleep...
Drive out to the Cleveland Tontine. The restaurant of this boutique hotel is a real draw, with excellent, beautifully presented dishes, and the rooms are individually decorated, with plenty of luxuries to make you feel at home.

Middlesbrough’s Baker Street is lined with independent businesses, from quirky salons to vintage clothes shops, not to mention the Chilli Cake Deli. Psyche on Linthorpe Road is an award-winning department store with an extensive range of lifestyle and fashion brands, from Hugo Boss to Versace. Don’t miss the smaller shops though – Lots of Loveliness has jewellery, gifts and unique treasures for the home.

Around the Corner
Norton is a pretty village with just small number of shops, but Café Lilli is a reason in itself to pay this place a visit. Enjoy dishes such as crushed truffle potatoes, skewered prawns and sea beam and don’t miss their signature dessert, Café Gourmande, which consists of mini brûlée, brownie and lemon and almond nibbles. While you’re in the area visit St Mary’s Church on the village green – it’s the only cruciform Anglo-Saxon church in the north.

Don't Miss
A trip to Middlesbrough wouldn’t be complete without visiting mima, the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art. As well as exhibitions of internationally significant art, mima hosts events to get kids interested in art, as well as life drawing workshops, behind the scenes tours and more.
