Whilst pretty much all of us are desperate for a holiday right now, we promise you there is not much better than an off-season break beside the sea. Once the crowds have left, you will have the beach – and the best table in the pub – pretty much to yourselves, and it’s a great way to recharge the batteries before the Christmas onslaught.
Coastal Retreats, the award-winning cottage company, are offering a weekend break at one of the newest properties in their portfolio, to be taken between November 2021 and January 2022. Red Herring is a 200-year-old whinstone cottage recently renovated by its designer owners to create a spacious, contemporary feel within a quaint cottage shell. Part of the Coastal Retreats collection, this two-bedroom retreat is tucked away up a side street, near Craster’s Jolly Fisherman gastro pub and the picturesque harbour, in one of the most popular seaside locations on the Northumberland coast.
A former schoolhouse, the renovation has retained original features while adding a log burner to the original inglenook fireplace, as well as ensuring light and space in the living areas. With a distinctly coastal interior, plus hints of Nordic style, this retreat is ideally situated for walks north to Dunstanburgh Castle and Embleton Bay, and south to Howick and Sugar Sands.

Winner can choose to stay in either November 2021, December 2021 or January 2022 excluding the festive period (24th–31st December).
Prize cannot be exchanged for cash and is subject to availability.
