Independently-owned Wrea Head Hall is one of Yorkshire’s leading country house hotels. Full of charm and character, you’re hidden away from the hustle and bustle yet still close enough to the seaside town of Scarborough to enjoy a perfect view of Scarborough Castle from the lawn (and perhaps from your room), and near to the many characterful towns and villages such as Whitby, Filey and Robin Hood’s Bay along Yorkshire’s heritage coastline and up on the moors.
Built in 1881 for a wealthy MP, the grand Victorian Hall found at the end of a long private drive has retained its decorative chimneys, mullioned windows and its bell-tower, but inside it’s a clever mix of traditional country house and stylish contemporary furnishings.
The 32 individually-designed rooms are split between the main Hall and Carriage House, so whether you fancy a four-poster bed or a roll-top bath you’ll find them here.
The hotel’s renowned 1881 restaurant in the original oak-panelled dining room has large windows overlooking the stunning gardens with views up to the National Park beyond, and it’s where the team of chefs provide guests with a consistently exceptional fine-dining experience. Everything here is made with locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible, including produce from Wrea Head’s kitchen garden and orchard, and in the winter, pheasant, venison and duck from the surrounding estates.
