What's on
March 2023
Reading time 3 Minutes

Spring has sprung and while you do lose an hour in bed on Sunday morning, you do gain a lighter evening to make the most of

From a film festival to the inaugural European PFL fight in Newcastle, and Living North LIVE in Yorkshire, we've picked out the best activities to end the week.
Pleased to Meet You

Head there…

This weekend is your last chance to take part in the Tyne Valley Film Festival – a community-led film festival which is a true celebration of cinema. Taking place at different venues throughout the Tyne Valley, the 2023 programme features everything from pre-sound cinematic classics right through to award-winning new releases and preview screenings of unreleased features, so there's something for everyone. For those in Yorkshire, this weekend is also the Hebden Bridge Film Fest. This year’s theme is ‘Hope and Resistance’ with the festival celebrating films by, or about, those who exist in the margins, sit outside the mainstream or just don’t fit in.

Eat out…

Morpeth Restaurant Week is running from 20th–26th March so whether you decide to try something new or just enjoy the great deals on offer at your favourite spots, it’s the perfect opportunity to visit Morpeth’s finest foodies. From lunch at The Market Place, or a three-course meal at Pleased to Meet You, to afternoon tea at Made of Crumbs, there are lots of great venues taking part.

Watch that…

It’s World Theatre Day on Monday 27th March, so it would be silly not to see a show this weekend. Leeds Playhouse is showing their own production of Lord of Flies in which a group of British school children are left stranded after surviving a devastating plane crash, and as tensions rise and the hunger for power grows, the group divide and become wildly out of control. For something a little more lighthearted you can meet the travelling circus performers recreating the adventures of Phileas Fogg, as Around the World in 80 Days is on at Darlington Hippodrome all weekend.

Starting on Thursday 23rd March and finishing with what is sure to be an explosive main event on Saturday 25th March, this is an event you’ll want to be ringside for. In our most recent issue you can read our interview with Senior Vice President of International for the PFL, James Frewin, as he tells us more about what to expect from the weekend.

Must visit…

Don’t miss…

In celebration of International Women’s Day, Raby Castle brought back their Women of Raby Tour and this Saturday is the last day to take part. From the history of Cecily Nevill, to the lesser-known experiences of the women who worked in the household, there are plenty of stories to discover and you’ll find out how these women shaped Raby into what it is today. You’ll also see some of the most iconic artworks in the castle’s collection as you get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into rooms visitors don’t normally see, so you won’t want to miss this.

Laugh out loud…

On Saturday and Sunday the Last Laugh Comedy Club is back at Sheffield Memorial Hall and this is the best place to see the comedians you’ve seen on the telly in their natural environment. This weekend Geordie talent John Fothergill is joined by Lily Phillips and Pete Otway, as they each take to the stage in an attempt to make you laugh.

Don’t forget…

Daylight Savings starts on Sunday 26th March, meaning the clocks go forward while you sleep and you do unfortunately get an hour less in bed… We suggest getting to bed a bit earlier on Saturday night so you don’t feel the effects as much. If you want to learn how to improve your sleep then read our top tips here, but the good news is, you have more daylight to enjoy all the fun activities above.
