How Foodies Can Make the Most of Copenhagen Copenhagen (c) Dreamstime

February 2026
Reading time 3 Minutes

Most famous for its lazy canals and colourful rows of houses, Copenhagen offers the perfect balance between youthful, contemporary coolness and deep-rooted tradition, and its food scene is no different

Regardless of whether you seek out the experimental or the tried and true, excellence is a given in the city with nearly 20 Michelin-starred restaurants to its name, including Noma, named Restaurant's Best Restaurant in the World no less than five times. While you wait (and wait and wait) for a Noma reservation, there's plenty to tuck into in the city besides.

Where to Stay

Coco Hotel

French flair meets Scandi cool at this sweet Parisian-inspired boutique hotel. In the Vesterbro neighbourhood, the sprawling ground floor café is a refreshing change from the typical hotel lobby, while the suites have a natural, lived-in feel, making it more like your own apartment than hotel room.

Audo Hotel

On the northern edge of the city, this design-led space is a truly cosy hideaway. Part of Audo House, a community space blending a café, restaurant, shop and showroom, Audo is the perfect escape from the city at the end of the day.

The Nimb

For those who prefer a stay which pulls out all the stops, The Nimb is the place to be. The bones of this hotel date back to the 19th century, though a more recent extension stands in contrast to the original structure. Stop in at Nimb Wellness, take a dip in the rooftop pool and share an intimate meal in the brasserie.

Where to Eat

Bobe

This charmingly simple restaurant is the perfect example of what Copenhagen is all about – a contemporary, fuss-free bistro in an historic townhouse dating back to 1731. New meets old and we’re the better for it. TV Chef Bo Bech brings great quality to his menu, utilising local produce which has earned the restaurant a Bib Gourmand.

Kødbyens Fiskebar

This is one of the original businesses to spark the transformation of the old meatpacking district into a must-visit destination, and has retained much industrial charm. We recommend working a visit here into a busy day of sightseeing as it has energy to match. Unsurprisingly, seafood is the speciality here, and trying their oyster menu is a must.

Trio

This chic restaurant covers three floors at the top of Axel Towers, and is the highest restaurant in the city. Great views are a given, and the menu is an interesting blend of cuisine including Japanese- and South American-influenced dishes. They are highly-regarded for their wine pairings, and a jaunt up to the ninth floor will take you to their cooly contemporary cocktail bar.
