Based on Rick Riordan’s best-selling novel, which has sold over 180 million copies worldwide, this high-voltage production follows 16-year-old Percy Jackson as he discovers he’s the half-blood son of Poseidon. Thrust into a dangerous quest, Percy faces mythical monsters, meddling gods, and a destiny he never asked for; all while the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

The cast is as heroic as the story itself, with Vasco Emauz (Back to the Future: The Musical) as Percy, Kayna Montecillo (Starlight Express) as Annabeth, and Cahir O’Neill as everyone’s favourite satyr sidekick, Grover. Expect stunning staging, and a rock-driven score that will have you tapping your feet long after the curtain falls.

Following record-breaking runs in New York and London, The Lightning Thief arrives in Newcastle as part of its first-ever UK tour and it’s the perfect summer holiday outing. With matinees and evening shows and a running time at just over two hours, it’s the ideal length for younger audiences without losing any of the spectacle.

So gather the kids, the grandkids, and anyone who loves an adventure, and prepare for a journey into a world where heroes are made, monsters are battled, and anything is possible.

The Lightning Thief plays Newcastle Theatre Royal Wednesday 27th–Sunday 31st August 2025. Tickets can be purchased at theatreroyal.co.uk or from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 0191 232 7010.
