Piercebridge Organic Farm Shop

The Hodgson family has been farming here since 1964 and their 300-acre farm is completely organic. Stocking more than 2,000 carefully selected organic products, shop everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products and award-winning meat, to speciality flours, pulses, canned produce and fish. At the butchery they do things the old fashioned way, using traditional methods to prepare their own sausages, bacon, classic joints and cooked meats using beef from Aberdeen Angus cattle, pork from Landrace Duroc pigs (famous for their tender pork) and lamb from their mixed flock of Scottish Black Face, Cheviots and home-bred mules.

The well-stocked deli serves pies, cooked meats, cheese and Scotch eggs, the butcher’s counter is packed with quality meat, and the shelves in the shop are loaded with fruit and vegetables, locally-baked breads and a selection of biscuits and cakes. At the deli, be sure to pick up one of Five Houses’ popular pies, and browse the selection of cooked meats and fine cheese. Shop honey from the Crathorne Estate itself, homemade bread from local bakeries, fresh fruit and vegetables and a range of jams, sauces and preserves. This farm shop started back in 1978 selling surplus eggs from their free-range hens. Fast forward to today and North Acomb are selling their own locally-grown produce alongside their best-selling Aberdeen Angus beef, lamb and pork. Browse the well-stocked shelves filled with seasonal fruit and vegetables, the fridges stocking homemade butter, cheese and local ice cream, and don’t miss the delicious biscuits and home-baked cakes.

Broom Mill Farm is not only a working farm but also a farm shop, tea room, delicatessen and bakery, and has been run by Matthew and Tracy Betney since 1989. Stocking their own pork, beef and chicken, and with a deli filled with delicious pies, sausage rolls, homemade quiches and ready meals, the farm shop stocks free-range eggs, farmhouse cheese, local ice cream, cream and a wide variety of preserves and pickles. Having farmed in Northumberland for generations, if the team at Moorhouse Farm Shop don’t produce it themselves, they know someone local who does. More than 80 percent of what they stock is from within 50 miles, including milk, eggs and cheese, as well as preserves and honey.
