With Bonfire Night just around the corner you can almost smell the gunpowder

Here’s our pick of the ten best firework displays in the North East and Yorkshire.

North East

Beamish Museum Bonfire Evening, County Durham
Heart North East will return for a second year at Beamish to provide a bonfire and spectacular display of fireworks on the 5th November. Along with music, face painting and various games and competitions there’ll also be the chance to visit the museum’s fairground.

Alnwick Round Table Fireworks, Alnwick
The gates open at 6.30 pm as Alnwick Rugby Club hosts an evening of fireworks on Saturday 7th November. It promises to be a fun-filled evening at this superb, friendly community event.

Segedunum Fireworks, Wallsend
Visit this spectacular fireworks at the historic Roman fort of Segedunum on the 5th November. The museum and café will be open for free before the display and there’s also the chance to explore the ruins of the fort. This one’s our top tip.

Hexham Round Table Bonfire and Fireworks, Hexham
The 7th November sees the popular Hexham Round Table Bonfire and Fireworks return to the picturesque market town of Hexham. There’ll be an illuminated kite flying display, musical entertainment, and of course the ever popular glow bands.

Ashbrooke Sports Club, Sunderland
Home to Sunderland’s largest fireworks display, Ashbrooke Sports Club hosts an evening of food, fireworks and fun fairs on the 5th November. Just remember to wrap up warm!

Yorkshire

Leyburn Bonfire and Fireworks, Leyburn
Leyburn Shawl play area will play host to a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display on the 5th November. There’s always a great community spirit and there’ll be plenty of refreshments on hand to keep everyone warm.

York Maze, York
There may not be any treason or plot but the York Maze will feature a memorable evening of bonfire and fireworks on the 5th November in York, the birthplace of Guy Fawkes. The fireworks show will be choreographed to music, while there’ll also be a range of food stalls and sideshows.

South Milford Bonfire and Firework Display, Leeds
South Milford Bonfire and Fireworks features fire eaters, a glow stall and sparkler area and one of the biggest firework displays in Yorkshire. Delicious pies and beef burgers as well as hot punch and toffee apples provide the refreshments on Saturday 7th November.

The Doncaster Big Bang Firework Spectacular, Doncaster
This excellent fireworks display takes place at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium, the home of Doncaster Rovers FC on 5th November. Lasting over five hours, Doncaster’s biggest fireworks display promises to be a spectacular event. There’ll also be entertainers, food stalls, a licensed bar and a huge fun fair featuring a mass of children’s rides.

Cleethorpes Fireworks Extravaganza, Cleethorpes
Returning to Cleethorpes for the first time in 15 years, a seaside event that once attracted up to 50,000 people every year is sure to be popular once again. Come down to Cleethorpes promenade on the 5th November for a dazzling display of fireworks by the beach.
