Sleeping four, The Pelican Loft is a hidden gem in the heart of Warkworth village

We take a peek through the keyhole.

The Pelican Loft is a beautifully restored first-floor apartment, but it feels just like a cosy cottage. Named after the famous ‘Percy the Pelican’ who lived in Warkworth village on the banks of the River Coquet in the 70s, The Pelican Loft is spacious and comfortable, sleeping four guests.

This home-from-home apartment has a small entrance hallway and a wide staircase with feature walls taking you to the first floor. There is storage at the front door for coats, boots, walking equipment and other paraphernalia.

There’s sociable open-plan living space with squashy velvet sofas, built-in ornamental shelving on either side of the fireplace and a contemporary inset electric fire, and the kitchen features all the latest appliances, as well as a breakfast bar with two comfortable bar stools. There’s also a separate dining space with a table for four.

The main bedroom (with a super king-size bed and an ensuite shower room) looks out over the centre of the village, The second bedroom also has a king-size bed, while the family bathroom is beautifully tiled with a rainfall shower over a full-size bath.

This luxury holiday cottage in Warkworth welcomes two small dogs (terrier size) or one large dog (no bigger than a labrador). Whilst there is no private, designated outside space, the riverbank is less than 100 yards away and is a perfect spot to enjoy a bottle of wine overlooking the river.

There is no designated parking for The Pelican Loft but all parking in Warkworth is free. With a varied selection of gift shops, art gallery, patisserie and a choice of four pubs on the doorstep, not to mention the five-mile stretch of golden sandy beach just 15 minutes walk away too, you can simply leave the car and explore this beautiful part of Northumberland on foot.
