Sunderland Restaurant Week is back, and from 25th September to 3rd October more than 20 different restaurants are offering delicious dishes for as little as £5, £10 and £15 per person

Here are our top choices of where to go
House of Zen

House of Zen

Experience an authentic Asian food experience at House of Zen whilst enjoying the relaxing atmosphere and stunning views of Whitburn Bay. Using a range of ingredients, flavours and preparation techniques this Asian Fusion restaurant is offering two courses for £15 during Restaurant Week. There are six choices for starter plates including classic vegetable spring rolls and salt and chilli baby ribs, whilst main course dishes include Malaysian curry and Nasi Goreng – Indonesian style fried rice.

2 Church Lane

From fried chicken to hot dogs, loaded fries and a more than 12 types of burgers on the menu, 2 Church Lane has something for everyone. During this year’s Sunderland Restaurant Week, this popular restaurant located in the heart of the city is offering any burger and fries for £10, or any starter, burger, fries and a brownie for £15. We recommend the Churchy OG burger – a six ounce beef patty topped with streaky bacon, melted cheddar, confit onions and served with Churchy’s sauce. If you’re peckish and want a starter too, the halloumi fries or the Mac and cheese look delicious.

808 Bar and Kitchen

Port of Call

Offering an extensive range of dishes during this year’s Sunderland Restaurant Week, Port of Call are giving customers a three course meal for just £15. Choose from calamari served with Thai mayonnaise, sticky Chinese chicken wings, vegan meatballs, popcorn chicken, or Spanish chorizo tortilla for starters, and pick between pan-fried salmon, Indian chicken skewers, bolognese loaded fries, a vegan beef burger, or a bolognese burger for your main meal. Finish off with a brownie or ice cream.

Proven People

Proven People, the new venue on Burdon Road, are getting involved and are offering two deals including any pizza and fries for £10, or any pizza and small plate or dessert for £15 (excluding the crab pizza). We love the sound of the locally-landed king prawns with garlic, chilli and parsley as a small plate, and the roast duck pizza with hoi sin sauce, Fior Di Latte, oven roasted duck, pickled cucumber, spring onion and fresh coriander, finished with Szechuan salt, sounds delicious.

808 Bar and Kitchen

If you’re looking for somewhere for tapas we recommend trying 808 Bar and Kitchen as they have an offer for four tapas dishes for £15. For meat lovers we recommend the Korean pork in guchujang sauce, or if you fancy trying something from the seafood tapas menu then the crab fritters or salt and chilli squid would be delicious. Tapas not your thing? Fear not as 808 Bar and Kitchen are also offering any pizza and a side for £10, and we love the sound of their spicy pie pizza – a tomato base with honey, parmesan, nduja and fresh mozzarella, topped with rocket, crème fraîche and chilli flakes.
