There's nothing better than delicious Asian dumplings to brighten up a dreary day

We've rounded up the best places to escape April's wet weather with some deliciously comforting dumplings in Newcastle.
The Little Dumpling House

The Little Dumpling House
Simple, snug and serving wonderfully rich dumplings, it’s no wonder that The Little Dumpling House is a hit in Newcastle. The restaurant has become so popular that it has recently opened a second location in Jesmond. Expect a laidback atmosphere and a great range of dumplings and small bites. We recommend the xiaolongbao (otherwise known as ‘soup dumplings’, the online viral sensation) which are best enjoyed in a window seat as you watch the world go by.

Mr Bao
The latest addition to Newcastle’s ever-growing dim sum scene, Mr Bao has recently opened its doors on Pilgrim Street and offers a great range of freshly made dumplings, bao buns, claypot rice dishes and refreshing teas. The small bakery counter (staffed by a very friendly team) is full of wonderful treats and we’d recommend grabbing a custard bun before you leave.

Infusion Newcastle
Friendly and fuss-free, this authentic Chinese restaurant serves a great variety of dishes, from all of your old favourites for a Friday night, to authentic gems. We’re all about the dumplings so make sure to try their wok-grilled pork dumplings, paired perfectly with a rich soy-mix sauce.

Nudo Noodle House

Dumpling and Bun
Tucked just inside Newcastle’s iconic Grainger Market, Dumpling and Bun is always a hive of activity. Their offer of five assorted dumplings (of your choice) for £4.50 is a great way to explore the menu and is a popular choice with regulars. Dumplings are made fresh and if you manage to grab a seat at the glass-fronted counter, you can watch the magic happen for yourself at lightning speed.

Nudo Noodle House
A staple of the city for the past 15 years, this restaurant’s menu has an incredible range to choose from including hot and cold small plates, plenty of fresh sushi, rice and noodle dishes and noodle soups. Our favourite, of course, is the excellent variety of dumplings. We recommend the steamed Shanghai dumplings, or for something crispy, try the deep fried chicken dumplings.

Bao Down
Newcastle’s STACK may be gone (for now) but Bao Down lives on, now located in Grainger Market. Though obviously most known for its bao buns, we have tried the crispy gyoza for ourselves and they are not to be missed. Portion sizes here are generous, with everything served quickly and piping hot. If you do opt for a bao bun, we recommend the sticky sesame chicken filling.

The Muddler

The Muddler
Sleek and stylish, this pan-Asian restaurant is a great place to grab a mid-week bite to eat. The menu is perfectly designed for sharing, with a range of small plates, large plates, platters and sides – perfect if you can never decide. We recommend trying the crab and pork soup dumplings, gently steamed and filled with a delicious broth.

Miso
This modern, Japanese-inspired bar and restaurant is a central element of Ouseburn’s bustling culture scene. The menu may be smaller than some others on this list, but it certainly packs a punch, including delicious ramen dishes, cold plates, and most importantly for us, gyoza, served fresh with a wonderfully spicy chilli oil for dipping.

Master Wang Chef’s Noodles
This hidden gem in the heart of Newcastle is popular with students. Authentic, relaxed and great value for money, it's a great spot to drop in for a bite to eat. The menu is extensive so you’ll be spoiled for choice, but we recommend the chicken and vegetable pan-fried dumplings or the char siu buns.
