All your basketball, football and horse racing fixtures across Yorkshire

There are more World Cups taking place at the moment than I can ever recall and English teams are performing well in many of them. The Cricket T Twenty in Australia is bubbling up nicely and despite a slip up against Ireland, hopefully the team will get through. Rugby League fans will be enjoying England’s progress in all three competitions and there is much to play for in the coming days as the competition comes to the sharp end. Meanwhile in Rugby Union, The English Roses are looking strong playing in the Southern Hemisphere – could it be another famous Cup victory for an England Women’s team? And then there’s the big daddy of them all, the FIFA World Cup. It was a travesty giving the prized tournament to Qatar but now it’s all but here we need to get on with it. England have a politically fractious opener against Iran on 21st November (USA are also in the group to add extra international spice) and there’s a ‘home’ derby to savour with England playing Wales on 29th November. The World Cup also puts a different angle on this season’s fixtures in the upper echelons of the leagues and so the fixture list is denuded at this normally busy time of year. At Christmas time it’s all back to normal and we can hopefully see a little more clearly where Yorkshire’s teams are heading as New Year approaches, so let’s have a look at a few stand out fixtures taking place in the coming weeks.
FOOTBALL

It was all looking a little tricky at Elland Road before Leeds United nicked a fabulous win at Anfield in late October but the team need to keep working hard with a fixture against Man City and another early new year fixture against West Ham ahead of them. In the Championship, the competition is fierce and it’s proving tough for the Terriers. Sheffield United are still performing well, while Hull City are also finding this year challenging. Meanwhile Rotherham lie mid-table. In the third and fourth tiers of the professional game Sheffield Wednesday are playing really well, Barnsley remain competitive and EFL League Two Bradford are in decent shape. Doncaster lie mid-table and Harrogate have thus far disappointed, but there’s an age to go and all to play for...
