In the story we all know and love, free-spirited nun Maria is made governess in the strict household of Captain von Trapp and wins the confidence of the seven von Trapp children, even softening the Captain’s guarded heart. But beyond the warmth and humour of this beloved musical lies a powerful tale of love and standing together when it matters most.
A live 40-piece Orchestra and the Chorus of Opera North bring extra special impact to this production, bringing new life to all the iconic hits you know and love, including Do-Re-Mi, My Favorite Things and Edelweiss.
Opera North’s The Sound of Music, based on the Leicester Curve production, plays at Leeds Grand Theatre from 9th July–1st August 2026. With matinees and accessible performances across the run and discounted tickets for children, students and under 30s, it promises to be the event of the summer for all the family.

The draw is not open to employees of Opera North, its agents, families or anyone professionally connected with the promotion. The winner will receive two tickets to The Sound of Music at Leeds Grand Theatre on either Saturday 18th July at 7pm, Saturday 25th July at 1.30pm or Saturday 25th July at 7pm, subject to availability. There is no cash or date alternative and negotiations will not be entered into. Only one entry per person. No third party entries, bulk entries or entries submitted by agents will be accepted. The Promoter reserves the right to verify the eligibility of entrants. The Promoter may require such information as it considers reasonably necessary for the purpose of verifying the eligibility of an entry and the prize may be withheld until and unless the Promoter is satisfied with the verification. The Promoter reserves the right to withdraw entries or the prize, especially if it is believed that the entrant has not met the terms and conditions or acted in the spirit of the competition. Entries made using methods generated by script, macro or the use of automated devices will be void. In the event of circumstances out of Opera North’s control this prize may be substituted for a prize of equal or greater value. The Promoter will not be responsible for any inability of a prize-winner to take up the prize or for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered as a result of entering the draw or accepting the prize.
