To celebrate National Tea Day (and her majesty the Queen’s birthday) this week, we’ve compiled the most tempting afternoon teas

From deliveries on your doorstep, to outdoor destinations for tea on the terrace, here are some of the best places across the North East and Yorkshire where you can pre-order your afternoon tea to go alongside the perfect cuppa, and celebrate in style.

Botham’s

This family-run bakery was founded in Whitby in 1865, and has been enticing locals and visitors ever since. With sandwiches, cakes and savoury treats, as well as an elegantly-styled afternoon tea, Botham’s really have it all down to a tea. You can order their packages to collect, with ginger loaf and patisserie items included. Alternatively, curate your own afternoon tea online with all your favourites from their wide selection of cakes, pastries and sandwiches, then collect.

The Running Fox

With outposts in Shilbottle and Longframlington, as well as their original Felton base, The Running Fox offer an extensive menu of sandwiches, pies, quiche, melts, platters and soups. Their afternoon tea is now legendary – think sandwiches, pies, quiche, fresh scones and hefty slices of cake, which you can pre-order online. You can also now sit outdoors on their garden terrace in Felton to take tea.

Walwick Hall

Rudding Park

Why not venture out to Vanessa’s in Beverley for your afternoon tea? In its outdoor seating area, the deli and café has its full menu running. Order cakes, tea, sandwiches and scones and don’t forget to browse the shelves – which are brimming with deli delights – before you head home. After-toon Tea-pi

You can choose to have your afternoon tea delivered (every Friday and Saturday) or visit Restaurant Pine to have your afternoon tea al fresco in the tipis at Vallum Farm until 2nd May. Offering a luxury afternoon tea experience at home from Cal Byerly, Chef Patron at Restaurant Pine, After-toon Tea-pi is set to be three weekends full of designer cakes with plenty cups of tea. Expect peach melba to start, alongside a caramelised onion and goats cheese quiche, before finishing off with Cal’s baked custard and strawberry tarts.
