Northumberland-based author and Living North columnist LJ Ross has just released her latest novel and as usual it’s one you won’t be able to put down. The most recent instalment of the DCI Ryan Mystery series, Lady’s Well tells the story of an entire rural village suffering severe poisoning before one old man turns up dead, and with so many potential motives there’s only one man who can help solve this particular mystery… Head to livingnorth.com for more page-turning inspiration, as well as LJ Ross’ Book Club recommendations.

When we last caught up with The Dunwells they were a leading example of online success and how to make music during lockdown. Having since found favour with audiences across the world, the Yorkshire-born brothers are back in the UK performing both new releases and fan favourites. A Leeds-based indie-folk/Americana band, The Dunwells are known for their strong vocals, powerful melodies and heartfelt lyrics, and that’s what you can expect from their show at The Forum in Darlington this Saturday.

This Friday is St Patrick's Day and there are events taking place all weekend in celebration. Head to Newcastle Racecourse on Saturday for the St Patrick's Raceday – a day out for all the family with live Irish bands, Irish dancing, face painting and of course the races themselves. If you’re in Yorkshire, the York Irish Association are bringing their St Patrick’s Weekend Festival back for 2023. Taking place in St Sampson’s Square there’ll be live music, Irish dancing, ceilidhs and food and drink. Or for those who just want to have a pint in peace to celebrate Paddy’s Day, we’ve picked out the best pubs to enjoy a Guinness this weekend.

One of the world’s most popular operas, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly tells the heart-breaking story of a young Japanese girl who falls in love with an American naval lieutenant, and this Friday 17th March you can see it performed live at The Alhambra Theatre, Bradford. An award-winning Ellen Kent and Ukrainian Opera & Ballet Theatre Kyviv production, expect exquisite sets including a spectacular Japanese garden and antique wedding kimonos from Japan. With international soloists and a full orchestra, you don’t want to miss this.
