RUGBY UNION
Newcastle Falcons Stadium on match night NEWCASTLE FALCONS

Two losses to Harlequins and Leicester at the start of the season heralds the start of a tough year for the Falcons, but the team played well in parts in both fixtures and with many players sidelined with injury this is no time for heads to drop – quite the opposite in fact. Hopefully as players return to fitness the results will improve; it’s always a great atmosphere at Kingston Park so if you haven’t been recently get yourself down there.

There’s some good racing to enjoy across the North East as autumn gathers pace. Flat racing continues at Gosforth Park courtesy of the All Weather track and there are National Hunt fixtures too. For a great night of entertainment Newcastle’s Firework night takes some beating.

FOOTBALL

A complicated season with the upcoming World Cup became even busier with the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II. At the sharp end, Newcastle are playing well but results remain frustrating with a run of draws, but these were games being lost this time last year so there’s no cause for despair. Meanwhile, Sunderland’s Black Cats are having a terrific season, losing their manager seemed careless but Tony Mowbray has pushed things on and just now Sunderland are the highest scorers of goals from open play of any team in any UK league. Boro are making matters look more complex in the same league and Hartlepool have just dismissed their manager after a very poor run. This is a great club so we wish them well as the year progresses.
