Sometimes you need something a little bit specialist to really set your meal off. Whether you’re after a hamper of goodies or just a light snack, these leading North East delicatessens stock everything from cheeses to chutneys.

Adriano’s Deli

Adriano’s brings a little slice of Italy to Gosforth with a delicious deli and similarly tasty restaurant next door. Good food, good wine, good atmosphere. Head to the deli for a light bite or to pick up something special to take home.

The Black Olive Deli

The Black Olive Deli in Darlington has been established since 1973, so it would be fair to say they know what they’re doing. A range of homemade savoury and sweet treats are on offer, baked fresh daily. Don’t forget to check out the shelves upon shelves of homemade chutneys and jams either.

Borrelli’s

Dene’s Deli

‘Made to order’ is one of our favourite phrases and, happily, anything you order from Dene’s Deli will be exactly that. For added excitement keep an eye out for regular competitions with the aim of finding creative new flavour combinations for use in their sandwiches.

Il Piccolo

he range of Italian cured meats on offer here go very well with the drinks selection available – think fine wines, beers and Prosecco. Be sure to leave room for the home-baked bread, cakes and biscuits too, then wash it all down with an Italian coffee.

JP’s Deli and Café

You’ll find a little bit of everything at JP’s Deli and Café including home-made bread, sausages, quiches (which are extremely popular), Scotch eggs and a variety of locally sourced produce.

Grainger Market

It may just have celebrated its 181st birthday, but the market's managed to keep itself young by bringing in new blood like Italian deli La Casa alongside its established names. With so many stalls here – meat, fish, bread, cakes, cheese, crêpes – it's basically the whole city's deli.
