Coastal themed guest room at The Lord Crewe The Lord Crewe

The Lord Crewe

In brief: A chic seaside pub with contemporary rooms just a short stroll from the award-winning beach at Bamburgh.
Our highlight: The locally-sourced seafood dishes, which have earned the restaurant an AA Rosette.
Insider guide: Inside this award-winning accommodation you’ll find seven individually-designed bedrooms (several including window seats so you can soak up the views), as well as luxurious self-catered accommodation only a short distance away. Downstairs, enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail in the cosy bar area before tucking into local delicacies in the pub’s popular restaurant.

The Walls

In brief: A Georgian townhouse on Berwick’s town walls with views over the River Tweed.
Our highlight: Their Northumbrian platters of locally-sourced meats, cheeses, pickles and bread served with Lindisfarne Mead.
Insider guide: Historic Berwick, once known for war and conflict, is far more peaceful nowadays and is home to the The Walls, a B&B perched on the town’s Elizabethan walls overlooking the River Tweed. Locally smoked Craster kippers are the order at breakfast, but there are continental and traditional cooked options too. After spending your day wandering the walls and tracing the footsteps of LS Lowry (who famously painted the town), enjoying a round on one of the nearby golf courses, or exploring the rugged North Northumberland coast, unwind and warm up by the wood-burning stove in the guest lounge. Here, you can make use of the ample reading material to plan for the following day, pour yourself a drink from the honesty bar, or just enjoy the unrivalled views over the river.

Budle Hall

In brief: A family-run B&B in a grand Georgian country house just a mile from the historic village of Bamburgh.
Our highlight: This welcoming B&B is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the golden sands of Budle Bay.
Insider guide: If your idea of a B&B is a big house with a few spare rooms, think again. At Budle Hall you can choose a super king-sized bed in one of the four luxury bedrooms, but you can also bring the whole family and stay in the three-bedroom Budle Lodge in the grounds. Or, perhaps their Scandi-style self-catering lodge in Brada Quarry is more your thing? Budle Hall also has three camping pitches, one of which is an exclusive spot in their secret walled garden. Finally, if you’re looking for something more novel, why not book a night in their converted combine harvester?

Our highlight: Breakfast served in the comfort of your own room for a slow start to the day.
Insider guide: Hosts Mark and Monique have thought of all of the little touches for a comfortable stay in busy Seahouses. Just a short walk from the village, there are frequent boat trips to the picturesque Farne Islands and plenty of stunning coastline to explore. Back at base the B&B has a walled garden where guests can chill out and enjoy a glass of wine. For a self-catered stay, their unique Snuggery is a deluxe converted stable which sleeps two.

Bertram’s

In brief: A cosy neighbourhood bistro with rooms in the pretty village of Warkworth.
