New Bewley Castle is packed with gorgeous period features, from exposed beams to sash windows, but it's the stunning location that really sets it apart

We take a peek inside.

This may be ‘New’ Bewley Castle, but the property is more than 250 years old, having originally been built in 1750 and expanded in 1865. The property’s name is a tribute to Old Bewley Castle, the stones of which were recovered and used in its construction.

The entry to the house features an impressive oak door that leads into the hallway. At the other end of the hallway, a separate porch opens onto the rear of the property. The main lounge has original exposed beams, oak flooring and a multi-fuel stove set within a stone surround. The garden room has a pitched roof and is encircled by glass walls, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy views of the Eden Valley, or you can step out onto the garden patio. Across the hallway, bespoke cabinetry in the snug makes for a great library, and in the dining room, period features like original meat hooks have been preserved from the property’s days as a farmhouse.

Characterful details like exposed beams continue in the large kitchen diner. The kitchen is beautifully appointed, with handmade cabinetry, a Belfast sink, AGA, integral dishwasher, and granite worktops. There is also a cosy seating area with a multi-fuel stove, and from here you can access the WC, boot room and utility room.

The first floor has four bedrooms and a family bathroom. The principal bedroom has an ensuite and fitted wardrobes, and two of the other bedrooms also have fitted wardrobes with integrated sinks. The second floor is a fully-converted attic which is currently being used as an office.

The property is enveloped by approximately an acre of mature gardens, featuring beech trees, Scots pines and rhododendrons. Parking is available in an adjoined double garage as well as the courtyard, with the latter offering enough space for four to five vehicles.
