MY FAIR LADY
Following a critically acclaimed West End run, the multi-award-winning production of My Fair Lady will visit Sunderland Empire for two weeks this February. With a star-studded cast including EastEnders’ Adam Woodyatt, My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a ‘proper lady’. But who is really being transformed? Featuring the much-loved classic songs I Could Have Danced All Night, Get Me to the Church on Time and On the Street Where You Live, an evening at the theatre has never looked so loverly.
DARK SKIES FESTIVAL
North York Moors National Park
Since 2016’s inaugural event, this has been an unmissable event. Don’t miss the eighth Dark Skies Festival which will showcase just how special our dark skies are and welcome back favourite annual events. Expect canoeing and night navigation, astrophotography workshops, stargazing safaris, children’s daytime trails, art workshops and mindful experiences.
PETE FIRMAN: BAG OF TRICKS
Hipp @ The Hullabaloo
One of the UK’s most popular magicians is back on the road, bringing his laugh-out-loud comedy and mesmerising magic to Hipp @ The Hullabaloo. Middlesbrough’s Pete Firman is always a delight to watch, so don’t miss your chance to get tickets.
THE NATURE OF FORGETTING
Northern Stage, Newcastle
Tom is living with young onset dementia. You’ll meet him as he prepares for his 55th birthday party and past memories come flooding back. Expect original live music combined with striking visual theatre as this play explores universal human challenges and the fragility of life. Dementia UK is supporting the tour of The Nature of Forgetting and Theatre RE by providing specialist dementia nurses at each of the post-show discussions.
BEAR HUNT TRAIL
The Plotters’ Forest, Raby
We’re going on a bear hunt. For February half term, Raby are hosting a series of trails around the estate and you won’t want to miss this one in their fantastic Plotters’ Forest – an immersive outdoor playground in the Christmas Tree Plantation at Raby Castle. It promises to be fun for all the family.
Seven Stories, Newcastle
Discover a world of wacky possibilities with acclaimed author-illustrator Nick Sharratt and his new book Unicorn Moonicorn. The original idea for this book was suggested to Nick by local schoolgirl Phoebe Tinkler, who will join Nick at this special event to talk about seeing her work brought to life by her favourite illustrator. It’s sure to be an inspirational event.
