Whether you’re exploring for the first time or returning to your favourite escape, the summer programme is bursting with energy, stories and experiences that bring the past to life and make every visit memorable.

Step into history

Alnwick Castle appears in medieval chronicles as far back as 1138, when it was described in Latin as a ‘heavily fortified castle’. With daily tours included with admission, learn about the thrilling history of this iconic northern landmark.

From historical tours of the majestic grounds and guided walk-throughs of the spectacular State Rooms to film location tours, this is your chance to walk in the footsteps of Harry Hotspur and Robin Hood alike.

Historic falconry returns

Between 28th July and 1st August, the skies above the Castle will fill with the grace and power of birds of prey during the Raphael Historic Falconry demonstrations.

These spellbinding events showcase the traditional art of falconry as it was practised through the ages, from royal hunting parties to medieval battlegrounds. The demonstrations are a brilliant way for kids and adults alike to learn something new, with a mix of flight displays and fascinating historical insights.

Medieval melodies and merriment

As you wander through the castle grounds this summer, you’ll want to keep your ears open for the lilting sounds of Medieval Melodies. Keeping the history of Alnwick Castle fresh, fun, and family-friendly, you can catch these costumed, live performances featuring traditional instruments and authentic tunes, giving you a real taste of courtly life from centuries past.

A majestic night of cinema

From 31st July to 3rd August, Adventure Cinema turns the Castle grounds into a one-of-a-kind outdoor movie theatre, with screenings of some of your favourite films beneath the stars, including The Greatest Showman Sing-A-Long, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Pretty Woman.

It’s a chance to enjoy a movie night in one of the most spectacular settings in the country – in fact the Castle itself was a filming location for Harry Potter! Whether you’re planning a family night out or a romantic date, these screenings are what summer nights are all about.

History comes to life, hilariously

Back by popular demand, the Silly History Boys bring their riotous mix of education and entertainment to the castle once more from 17th–22nd August. Expect outrageous wigs, slapstick gags, and a cheeky take on the past that will keep audiences of all ages giggling.

A real hit with families and grown-ups alike, their show is great for curious minds who like their history with a dose of fun.

An evening with Andrew Graham-Dixon

For the book lovers, Andrew Graham-Dixon, renowned art historian and BBC presenter, will join the Castle for an evening lecture on 29th August to discuss one of his most well-known books, Caravaggio: A Life Sacred and Profane.

Known for his engaging storytelling and deep cultural knowledge, he will share insights from his book, answer some of the questions that have long puzzled scholars and explore the infamous Italian painter’s links to some of the artists in Alnwick Castle’s extensive art collection.

This intimate evening promises plenty of inspiration, mystery, discussion, and a chance to meet one of the country’s most respected cultural figures.
