Celebrations for Diwali begin today, and here’s where to celebrate the important five-day Festival of Light across the North East and Yorkshire.

Hindu Temple Newcastle
The Hindu Temple in Newcastle are hosting their annual celebrations on 4th November. Starting at 7pm, the schedule includes Puja, children’s performances and Aarati worship.

Diwali in Middlesbrough
For the first time ever, Middlesbrough will host its Diwali festival this weekend. Held on Centre Square on Saturday 6th November, expect main-stage entertainment, a family fun fair, lantern parade and explosive fireworks. For more information, visit Diwali in Boro on Instagram and Facebook.


Oriental Museum Durham
Everyone is welcome to join this spectacular evening of Diwali celebrations on 6th November, which will include traditional prayers, a delicious vegetarian menu and arts and crafts activities to commemorate the Festival of Light. Find out more here.

The Piece Hall Halifax
Watch the Courtyard at The Piece Hall come alive with traditional Indian music and dance, before experiencing mindfulness sessions, delicious food from street food vendors, and lantern making workshops for the whole family. The event is free to enter and is taking place on 6th November between 11am and 5pm.
