Vegetables go straight from plot-to-plate at The Glass House

Sourcing local produce from within a 30-mile radius and from estate-grown produce from the edible garden, The Glass House Restaurant at Wynyard Hall has collaborated with the best suppliers in the region to create plates featuring sustainable cod, slow-cooked beef cheek and caramelised garden cauliflower.

The plot-to-plate offerings are fresh, seasonal and provide an authentic taste sensation. Guests can enjoy a relaxed dining atmosphere with panoramic views over the kitchen garden or sit by the fire on wintry afternoons and enjoy one of the restaurant’s English wines, which are perfectly paired with seasonal small plates.

The restaurant, located in the grounds of the former home of the Marquess of Londonderry, looks onto the gardens which gives guests the opportunity to see exactly where the vegetables they are eating come from. Diners can spot everything from carrots and beetroot to herbs and the less well-known ingredients such as oxalis and micro kale.

The vision for the Glass House is quite simple: delivering fresh produce, with locally-sourced ingredients and working with cheese makers and local farmers to deliver elegant, palette-pleasing dishes.

While wedding and other function guests can enjoy the opulence of the main hall, The Glass House, which stands within the walled garden area, has a relaxed ambience and is aimed at everyone, from dog walkers who can enjoy a drink in the bar and a Puppaccino for their pooches, to families out for lunch.

The restaurant also boasts something a little more intimate. The eight-seater private dining area at The Glass House is ideal for those extra special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. It also provides the perfect spot for an exclusive meeting.

The Glass House has already proved to be a hit with the local community, attracting both residents and guests from further afield throughout the region since 2021. The venue continues to impress customers thanks to its refreshing dining concept and veg-forward menu.

Executive head chef Marc Lomas says: ‘It’s important for us to mention the history when we curate dishes. While it's great that we source all of our produce locally, it's important for us that we highlight the origins and embrace the culture and history of why we have a plot-to-plate restaurant. The ground in which the ingredients are grown tells a story of its own; having once been a kitchen garden to the Londonderry family, it is a great privilege to continue that story into the menu we offer today.’

Guests now have the option to enhance their experience further with a stay at one of the four luxurious, self-catering cottages housed within the Wynyard Estate. Combined with their breath-taking surroundings in 120 acres of historic parkland and rolling countryside, the cottages, which can sleep up to 12 guests, are the perfect setting for a staycation for friends, families and loved ones. With easy driving access to The Glass House, they are the perfect spot for a wonderful mid-week or weekend treat.

The Glass House is open Wednesday to Sunday for brunch, lunch and dinner. For bookings or information on The Glass House, cottages or any other aspect of the Wynyard Hall Estate, visit wynyardhall.co.uk or contact reception on 01740 644811.
