In celebration of National Pickle day on 14th November

Here are our top local pickle picks.

In the heart of Yorkshire, Blueberry Hill Preserves have crafted a range of delicious preserves that are brimful with the finest ingredients. Offering great tasting jams, pickles, chutneys, marmalades and more, we recommend trying the award-winning Hot Garlic Pickle, which gives a hit of strong yet sweet garlic followed by a warming chilli afterglow. Use this delicious pickle to give your curries or bolognese dishes a great garlicy kick.

Since launching in 2004, Bracken Hill Fine Foods have won multiple awards for their delicious preserves. We recommend their Dark and Stormy Orange Marmalade from the cocktail range, which includes thick chunks of bitter Seville orange, boiled slowly until the strong flavour comes through, with chopped ginger and dark rum.

Founded in 1978, family-run Raydale Preserves sit in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and are proud of their heritage and Yorkshire roots. Offering a range of more than 50 jams, chutneys and sauces, the Spicy Red Onion marmalade is definitely one to try alongside cheeses and meats this winter – a sweet, tangy chutney infused with spicy scotch bonnets for an added twist.

Famous for her cocktail marmalades, Fat Lass Preserves create a modern twist on artisan chutneys, jams and marmalades with favourites including the gin cocktail marmalade which can be used to make a gin and champagne cocktail. Using top notch ingredients in all her jars, owner Bridget wants her food to be enjoyed without the guilt – and what better time of year to indulge than during the winter months.

From jams and jellies to chutneys and relish jars, Northumbrian Pantry create all their preserves in small batches by hand and use time-honoured traditional methods to bring out the best of each ingredient’s flavours. The Northumbrian Red Onion Relish, which has a sweet well-rounded flavour with a hint of chilli, is a favourite of ours. The subtle warmth of this relish will add a touch of luxury to your winter sandwiches.

Established in 1989, Rosebud Preserves craft fresh and flavoursome chutneys, jams, jellies, pickles and honeys using in-season ingredients, as well as traditional recipes and techniques. For a dark and rich British pantry classic, try the Great Yorkshire Pickle which goes perfectly with a pork pie or a farmhouse cheddar cheese.

This husband and wife team created Calder’s Kitchen after finding Grandad Charlie’s original Piccalilli recipe. There are now several variations on the theme which include Chillililli – Piccalilli with a delicious yet subtle sweet chilli glow, as well as fiery Habanero and beetroot chutney which pairs perfectly with a cheese or corned beef sandwich.
