In a whimsical woodland garden in the pretty village of Sand Hutton near York, this former storehouse has been beautifully transformed into a romantic hideaway just for two. A secluded bolthole, the open-plan living space has a sofa by the log burner to sink into and stay cosy, and outside you’ll find sheepskins and a fire pit in your private garden so you can stay toasty outdoors too. Really want to relax? Guests can pre-order homemade ‘fakeaways’ before arrival or visit the on-site honesty shop, a little Yorkshire deli on the doorstep with all the best basics, so you don’t even need to rustle up something to eat in the kitchen if you just don’t feel like it.

Two off-grid glamping lodges are tucked away at Cheesedale, home to award-winning artisan cheesemaking couple Alison and Jonathan, the Teesdale Cheesemakers. The 20-acre smallholding is also home to a range of farm animals that support the couple’s sustainable lifestyle and the adult-only lodges offer seclusion, peace and total tranquility, together with stunning views. Both lodges have their own wood-fired tub on a private deck and firepit to tempt you outdoors, but inside is just as cosy. In its own private field with stunning views of the Dales, this shepherd’s hut offers a sumptuously stylish off-grid getaway for two (designed by former Soho House interiors architect Georgina). It has everything you need for escaping the everyday without giving up on luxuries like a king-sized bed and walk-in shower. Inside there’s an open living and bedroom space, and kitchenette with breakfast bar, plus a wood-burning stove to keep you toasty, and an outdoor fire pit to keep you warm whilst star gazing if the weather plays ball. There’s no wifi or TV here, but there is phone reception.
