We've picked out some of the cosiest and most romantic boltholes to book when you want to get away as a couple - from coastal escapes to hot tub hideaways.

Don’t let the name put you off your romantic retreat. The Huffy House is a pretty stone cottage with a large private garden and uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. In a whimsical woodland garden in the pretty village of Sand Hutton near York, this former storehouse has been beautifully transformed into a romantic hideaway just for two. A secluded bolthole, the open-plan living space has a sofa by the log burner to sink into and stay cosy, and outside you’ll find sheepskins and a fire pit in your private garden so you can stay toasty outdoors too. Really want to relax? Guests can pre-order homemade ‘fakeaways’ before arrival or visit the on-site honesty shop, a little Yorkshire deli on the doorstep with all the best basics, so you don’t even need to rustle up something to eat in the kitchen if you just don’t feel like it.

Cheesedale Lodges

In its own private field with stunning views of the Dales, this shepherd’s hut offers a sumptuously stylish off-grid getaway for two (designed by former Soho House interiors architect Georgina). The Forge
