Originally a pop-up stall on Newcastle’s Quayside Market, Proven Goods Co. have flourished into one of the best doughnut suppliers in the North East. Creating their hand-rolled, slow proven doughnuts the traditional way, meaning each one is made from scratch, filled and then glazed each morning, you’ll find their monthly changing flavours at Hoults Yard.

Doe Bakehouse

Step inside one of their three (two in York and one in Clitheroe) bright and colourful doughnut shops where you’ll find handcrafted, cream filled, chocolate topped and rainbow coloured doughnuts. Try the bitter lemony glaze with a sweet meringue and biscuit top – yum!

Deep North

Relatively new to Tynemouth Front Street, Deep North have made waves with their independent coffee and doughnut shop. Everything (including the dough, jams, fillings and glazes) is made from scratch each day, with high-quality seasonal ingredients. After a dip in the sea or a stroll along King Eddy’s Bay, there’s nothing sweeter than a freshly made doughnut and cup of coffee.

Doboy Donuts have been serving handmade delicious sweet treats since 2020 and now with three locations across Yorkshire (in Wakefield, Castleford and Leeds) there’s even more opportunity to try a delicious glazed ring. They offer a huge range of flavours (including vegan doughnuts) and they switch them up each month so there is always something new to try.

Just off High Level Bridge you’ll find this quirky doughnut shop serving fresh artisan doughnuts. As well as doughnut messages and 10 inch pre-order doughnuts, you’ll find flavours including Biscoff, caramel fudge, raspberry Jammy Dodger and cinnamon sugar – plus all their doughnuts are suitable for vegans.

Working hard to develop distinctive favours alongside a yummy dough recipe, the team at Doh’hut now have a permanent outpost in Leeds. Try the classic vanilla bean and crème patissiere flavour topped with a fresh strawberry – it’s one of our favourites.

Newcastle’s very own vegan doughnut shop with two outposts (in Heaton and Newcastle’s Grainger Market), Glazed is the place to go this National Doughnut Day. From quirky lime and basil to rich peanut butter and chocolate flavours, head to either of the shops to browse the counter full of treats.

Small batch handmade doughnuts are what this Sheffield bakery was built on. Starting out in 2015 selling their delicious doughnuts at a local market, owner Lauren Eve knew she was on to something good. Head to the bakery to sample seasonally-inspired sweet treats – the Yorkshire forced rhubarb and lemon curd rippled cream is a must!
