Get spooky…

With half term starting for many this weekend, there’s lots of Halloween-inspired activities to sink your teeth into. What better way to keep the kids entertained (and get into the Halloween spirit) than carving a pumpkin or two? We’ve picked out the best places to pick your own pumpkins across the North East and Yorkshire – and we’ve the ultimate guide to help you keep your pumpkins fresher for longer. With so many spooky events kickstarting this weekend (and across half term), we’ve rounded up some of the most frightful (and family-friendly) events in Yorkshire here.

Wrap up and win…

We’re now in the height of autumn and we’re certainly feeling the cold, so why not enter our competition to be in with the chance of winning an iconic Barbour Beadnell Wax Jacket? Beloved by celebrities and royalty, local company Barbour’s are celebrating 100 years of their re-waxing service and to mark the occasion we have a Beadnell jacket to give away. It will help keep the cold at bay, but can be worn all year round – so you stay stylish and sustainable! Enter the competition here, and read all about Barbour’s re-waxing centenary here.

Behind the Seams

Feast of fashion…

There’s so much fashion history and culture across the North East and Yorkshire, and this weekend, there are exhibitions that celebrate just that. After experiencing huge success in 2018, Behind The Seams has returned to Preston Park Museum in Stockton, with an all new collection of iconic costumes from film and TV including The Crown, James Bond and Rocket Man. You can book tickets online here. Over at Bankfield Museum in Halifax, the all new exhibition Belonging: Fashion & A Sense of Place has launched – showcasing the works of international designers, as well as makers closer to home, exploring the impact of West Yorkshire on the world of fashion.

Have a laugh…

The Last Stop to Edinburgh Comedy Festival is taking place at Stockton’s Georgian Theatre this weekend, with award-winning acts that you’ll recognise from 8 Out of 10 Cats, Have I Got News For You and Comedy Central (plus a load of local legends too). There are two afternoon shows suitable for the whole family to enjoy, and seven hilarious shows for adults later on. It’s not too late to grab a ticket here.
