Make the Most of the Bank Holiday Weekend
What's on
August 2021
Reading time 5 minutes

With the sun (hopefully) shining for the long weekend, it’s a good thing you have an extra day as there’s so much you’ll want to do

Here’s what not to miss this Bank Holiday
National Burger Day

Head to a street food battle…

Wylam Brewery’s ‘The Battle Royale’ is the perfect street food experience to kick off the Bank Holiday weekend. Slap bang in the middle of Newcastle’s Exhibition Park, from midday to midnight today, enjoy some local favourites for food, beer, ice cream and music. Lola Jeans, Lev’s Delivery, Fire&Dough, Dabbawal and Brack Burger are just some of the familiar faces you can expect.

Take a trip to the Seaside

With National Beach Day on Monday, enjoy your Bank Holiday paddling in the sea. We have so many things to do along our coastline, whether you prefer to relax and read a book, make giant sandcastles, visit the arcade or try your hand at watersports. Here’s what you can do and see at our favourite seaside resorts including Bamburgh, Saltburn, Whitley Bay and Filey.

Head to the Dales

Malham Country Show takes place tomorrow and with sheep and cattle classes, an egg throwing contest, fell racing and axemen displays, as well as a marquee crammed with artisanal food and drink, it really will be the perfect family day out in the Dales.

Get ready for rugby league…

The Dacia Magic Weekend returns to St James’ Park next week and after the long-awaited return of live sports, you don’t want to miss out. Make sure you get to go by booking your tickets here.

Take in an exhibition

This Sunday is the last day for you to admire Piers Browne’s seascapes exhibition at Tennants. One of Yorkshire’s best-loved artists celebrates the beauty of the coast, and through the exhibition he is supporting the Alderney Wildlife Trust, so there’s even more reason for you to visit.

Enjoy the perfect patty…

With National Burger day yesterday, what better way to celebrate than getting your hands on a delicious burger or two? Make your own at home with our favourite burger recipes, or eat out at our top picks of the best burger spots near you.

Get sipping…

To celebrate International Red Wine Day on Sunday, join Tipple in The Tunnel, Hotel du Vin’s head sommelier’s unique wine tasting event in Newcastle’s iconic Victoria Tunnel. With a glass of bubbles on arrival, a showcase of wines from around the world, as well as a blind tasting, it will be an evening to remember.

See a film outdoors

Watch two classic movies from the picturesque parkland of Carlton Towers this Sunday. With family favourite Aladdin as the matinee, and Top Gun in the evening, what could be better? Bring all the family – and a blanket to sit on. Want a real treat? With the next day off, you can even stay over in one of Carlton Tower’s staterooms for the night, as well as enjoying a delicious breakfast the next day. Book your tickets here.
